If true human–machine collaboration means aligning our tools with our judgement and shared goals, then the climate and ecological crisis is where that claim is most seriously tested.

In this conversation, Dr. Mark Daley, the Chief AI Officer at Western University, reflects on AI and creativity, and how we might conceive human agency and collective effort in today’s fast-evolving human–machine mix. One starting point, he suggests, is to avoid rigid thinking about any single technology and instead see how creativity, ethics, and systems awareness can move together.

This interview was recorded as part of Western University's Film & Art Festival in November 2025, exploring emerging visions on AI, art and environment.
